The Ethan and Ira Challenge
October 11th, 2014 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Legend has it that Ethan Allen and his brother Ira argued over who was the better woodsman, they settled the matter by having a race from Bennington to Burlington. Ethan, being big and burly, barreled straight through all natural obstacles. Ira, using his woodsmen skills used a longer, but more developed route. Reportedly they both arrived at the same time and celebrated their tie together. While this legend is most likely one of the many "tall tales" about Ethan Allen, it does provide a teachable moment!

Come to the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum in Burlington, VT on Saturday, October 11th from 10 a.m.- 4p.m. to learn some of the skills that 18th Century Woodsmen would have needed. This event is much more than demonstrations, all participants will get an opportunity to actually perform various tasks like lighting a fire using flint and steel, land navigation, military skills, finding resources on the land, and much more! In addition to a whole lot of educational fun, all participants will win a prize!
