Growing Mushrooms on Logs Workshop upcoming at Peace of Earth Farm in Albany

9AM-12PM $50-75 sliding scale, pre-registration required (just a few slots left!)

Learn how to grow your own mushrooms on logs from start to finish. Each participant will go home with an inoculated shiitake mushroom log. We've been growing shiitake mushrooms at Peace of Earth Farm for 10 years and we are excited to share the basics of cultivation as well as how we manage our log yard with you.

The workshop will cover :

Basics of mushroom growth and lifecycle
Materials, tools and resources needed
Tree selection and timing of inoculation
types of mushrooms appropriate for log cultivation, options for filling logs
Hands on demonstration of how to drill, fill and wax logs (participants try every step and make their own logs to bring home)
Tour of our log yard covering log management from creation to soaking, fruiting, harvest and preservation, to resting and eventually creative retirement
