Two Garden Programs at UVM Hort Farm Saturday

PRUNING BASICS FOR TREES AND SHRUBS, Saturday, April 6, 10-12 Proper pruning of trees and shrubs not only adds to their aesthetic value in the landscape but can also help ensure their overall health and structural integrity for the future. Join V.J. Comai to learn the basics of proper pruning, including tools, techniques, timing, and common mistakes, and increase your basic understanding of plant growth and responses to pruning. Presenter's bio: A native Vermonter, VJ earned his BS in Community Forestry and Horticulture at UVM.

A certified arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture, he has been a nursery manager, an Arborist Representative for Bartlett Tree Experts, and is now the City of Burlington Arborist responsible for maintaining nearly 13,000 trees along rights-of-way, in park spaces, and cemeteries in the city.

INVASIVES WORKDAY, Saturday, April 6, 10-12
Help the Friends of the Horticulture Farm attack the invasive species at the Hort Farm, while you learn about combatting these species, how to identify them, and ways to stop their spread. We'll go after invasives on the upper branches down to the ground level.

Bring your gloves and tools, such as loppers, pruners, hand saw and Cape Cod weeder.
