As we are looking forward to the Eclipse we would like to remind you of a few items:
1. Karen Larsen has kept you advised of road closings, and they are posted as of Sunday through Tuesday, April 9. Please remember they will be open only to residential traffic and emergency vehicles. Please respect the residents on these roads. If you have any questions regarding your road, you can call my office 802 563-2279 or the Road Foreman, Sid Griggs at 802 522-4415.
2. If you are coming from a lower altitude area and wish to view the eclipse at an upper elevation, please be aware that traffic may be heavier than normal and use caution.
3. As of right now the forecast that I received earlier this morning was that it will be breezy and cloudy, with highs in the 40s, lows in 20-30's with a north wind of 10-20 mph. There is a chance of patchy snow-covered roads across higher elevation. But as you know, the weather can change quickly in Vermont!
4. I do have a few glasses if you wish to pick them up – first come, first serve. Please remember these special glasses are important. If you look at the eclipse without them, you could seriously damage your eyes.
5. The Town Clerk's Office will be open until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8, so please plan accordingly. If you need something from my office and it can't wait until Tuesday morning, you can reach me on 802 279-1524.
6. If you have a medical emergency, please call 911.
7. The Cabot Store and the Den will be open for food and beverages, along with food and beverages at the Pavilion.
8. Because of equipment and supplies at the temporary Public Safety Building, parking may not work close to the Pavilion. There is a Park and Ride right next to Neighbors In Action that will be available again first come, first serve. The Willey Building Parking lot is available for parking also.
9. There is a Port-A-Let in the Willey Building parking lot for public use.
10. The Cabot Ambulance and the Cabot Fire Department are on alert for any emergencies
during the eclipse event.
11. It should be noted that construction is still underway at the temporary fire station site. The upper lot will be closed due to construction equipment/materials. Depending on the weather and the contractor's schedule for the new basketball court installation at the lower lot, the lower lot may or may not be available for parking at that time. Folks planning on attending any Town events during the week of April 7Th should plan on alternate parking areas as listed in pint 7. If any event planners or public have any questions or concerns, contact Chief Deasy at Chief@Cabotfiredept.com
12. We also want to stress that at the minimum one lane travel must be maintained on all roads for emergency access and the Cabot constable will be actively patrolling the area enforcing clear passage. A towing company will be if requested by the constable, EMS, ambulance, or fire personnel.
Thank you,
Betty Ritter
