Students in this week-long workshop will learn the ancient art of lost wax casting. With a focus on jewelry but applicable to other forms, the workshop will begin with wax carving, wax sculpting, and cuttlefish carving, students will learn both reductive and additive techniques. Students will learn centrifugal lost wax casting and direct casting, and have the opportunity to learn basic finishing techniques on their cast pieces. Students will work with ancient bronze and sterling silver in their castings. This class will be led by jeweler and metalsmith Vanessa Graham with creative input from Will Nevins-Alderfer & Anna Bario.
