Playing Out Saturday Night

Past event

Hey folks, there's a bunch of stuff coming up, but I thought I'd let you know that I'm playing music with Grant Orenstein at The Den (aka Harry's Hardware) in Cabot this Saturday night 7-9. There's beer and coffee drinks, and the music has become pretty good. I've been playing out since the Kate seventies, first busking with my first wife and her son in old original Ben and Jerry's , in the orbs original parlor, across the street from Burlington City Hall Park, repurposed from a gas station. It's a parking lot now, but I think there's a placque. Then there was my old band, Sweet Corn Broadcasters, which eventually shook down to me, Franklin Heyburn and Tom Hodgson on guitar.; we had a regular contra dance with the late Charles Woodard calling, and did ( and for awhile I ran) coffee houses, fairs and festivals, etc. Then I joined up with Leanne and we played Irish music with her harp and my concertina. We atarted out busking on Church Street-/ we lived in Burlington, so it was relatively easy even with that big harp. We made enough money there to buy our first minivan, counted out the dollars and quarters on the dealer's table, he was startled and amused. The street led to a bunch more work, in festivals, restaurants, receptions and so forth. We only stopped when Leanne's dementia reached the point where it was too hard for her to enjoy it. Then I wasn't playing at all, hardly after Leanne's collapse and my own series of health woes.

But Grant and I have been playing together for a couple years now, beginning with busking in front of Wilaiwan's and In a couple of farmer's markets. We're pretty tight. We'd love to have some of our neighbors come hear us in a more focussed, formal concert setting.

Harry's Hardware in Cabot, 7-9. Old time, good time, traditional and honkeytonque songs and melodies from North America and Ireland. Guitar, banjo, English system concertina, voice.
