Join us for a Vernal Pool walk in the Town Forest, Tuesday, April 30th from 4:30 - 6:30pm. Vermont Land Trust Forester Caitlin Cusack and Washington County Forester Robert Nelson will lead the walk. Register in advance with the event URL on this post.
Vernal pools are small but mighty ecosystems. Their tiny size and fleeting nature belies their outsized contribution to the ecological health of our forests. These temporary wetlands host diverse insects, clams, shrimp, frogs, salamanders, and plants, and provide critical breeding habitat for many amphibian species and food for forest birds and mammals. This walk will explore two State significant Vernal Pools within the Town of Barre Forest.
