What: Empowerment Self-Defense Level 1 workshop
Who: The Safety Team , a 501(c)3 non profit organization

Empowerment Self-Defense Workshops teaches simple, powerful, and effective personal protection strategies that are easy to understand and remember. Participants learn how to recognize predatory behavior before it becomes a threat, diffuse it verbally, if possible, and to apply effective physical self defense techniques, if necessary. Taught by women for women.

All fitness levels welcome! No prior experience required!

Open to cis/trans women and girls 12 and up. ( 12 -13 year olds need to be accompanied by their mother or female legal guardian) 14-18 year olds need a waiver signed by parent or legal guardian . All classes are LGBTQ friendly.

Workshop Descriptions Level I Workshop:
This 2.5 hour beginner workshop utilizes both large- and small-group instruction. With a 5:1 student-to-instructor ratio, The Safety Team's trauma-informed trainings focus on boundary setting, affirmative consent, the mental and physical skills of Empowerment Self-Defense, and relevant sexual assault information.

The overarching goal of these large-group sessions is to help women discover their collective voice, address victim- blaming by redirecting the responsibility for all assaults onto the perpetrators, improve women's sense of power and control, and, as a result, reduce the likelihood of sexual assault and violence.

Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) is EVIDENCE-BASED
According to six major studies, girls and women who complete an ESD class are less likely to be targeted for assault. These studies also report significant decreases in sexual harassment, sexual coercion, and physical violence.
