Mount Mansfield Union High School in Jericho will be hosting eclipse viewing on April 8th! The playing fields offer a great spot to put out a blanket or chairs to watch the event. There is plenty of parking, too!
There will be multiple telescopes set up with solar filters and members of the MMU Astronomy club and MMU teachers will be on site to answer questions and offer telescope views. There will also be food available for purchase from a local food truck or two. Things to consider:
- Parking will be in the main MMU lot, and folks can set up chairs and such on the soccer or football fields.
- Bring your own eclipse glasses! It is dangerous to look at the sun without them! Note that all MMUUSD students will receive a pair of glasses from their schools/teachers prior to the event.
- If you have a telescope of your own or photography equipment you want to use please do so! There are lots of places to set up equipment.
- The eclipse starts at 2:15 pm. Totality begins at 3:26 pm and will last for about 3 minutes. The eclipse ends at 4:35 pm. The parking lot will be open starting at 1 pm.
- Keep thinking thoughts of clear skies! This will be an exciting celestial event!
