Wanna be a solar farmer?
* Do you have an acre or more of underutilized land?
* Would you like to earn some money from that land by producing clean, renewable solar electricity?
The Underhill Energy Committee would like to connect you with a solar developer who could help you explore leasing some of your land for a "solar farm."
What's a solar farm?
* A solar farm consists of an acre or more of solar photovoltaic panels mounted on a metal structure that faces south.
* Like smaller home-scale systems, a solar farm captures some of the energy in sunlight and converts it to AC electricity.
* This electricity feeds the utility grid and provides power to nearby houses or businesses.
Solar farm proposal in a nutshell:
* Solar developers will handle most of the details–design, permitting, purchase, installation, sale of the power to customers, and maintenance.
* The landowner will be paid a lease fee annually.
Curious? Please come to an informational meeting at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 19th, at the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library. This will be a brief meeting to provide an introduction to solar farms and to answer your basic questions (without any solar developers present).
There will be a follow-up meeting, tentatively scheduled for April 23rd, where several solar developers will provide details and answer your specific questions about hosting a solar farm on your property.
Please contact Steve at stevew831@gmail.com if you have any questions about the informational meeting.
