Please join us on Saturday, March 16 for the Walloomsac River and Downtown Walk. We will highlight an individual and an organization who are working on behalf of the community. The walk will include a presentation of the ninth Unsung Hero Award, which recognizes individuals who have quietly gone above and beyond on behalf of the community.

Geoff Metcalfe will receive this month's Unsung Hero Award. A seventh generation Benningtonian, his contributions to our community and area youth sports programs are extensive. Geoff began working with Bennington Little League Baseball in 2003 as a parent volunteer and has served as board president since 2007. He has also been involved with Babe Ruth Baseball, MAYAA football, and MAYAA basketball programs. Most recently Geoff has utilized his skills as an architect to do pro-bono work for the new Skatepark facility planned for Rotary Park in Bennington. His early involvement in helping develop the site and building plans for the facility were essential to moving this project forward. Let's make sure Geoff knows how much we appreciate all his efforts!

Sunrise Family Resource Center will be our featured organization. Sunrise provides a wide range of services to Bennington families, including home visits, early childhood intervention, parent education, playgroups, parent support groups, referrals, and more. Their services are provided at no cost to the families served.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Sunrise's 55th year of service. Executive Director, Denise Main, will participate in the walk, which will end at Sunrise's campus at 244 Union Street for an open house and refreshments.

The March Walloomsac Riverwalk will begin at 10 AM at the Rotary/Bennington Station Park on Depot Street between Main Street and River Street. People of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy this ongoing community event. In the case of inclement weather, cancellation notices will be placed on the Front Porch Forum and the Bennington Blotter.
