Come share a pint and settle in for a night of listening and storytelling with The National Wild Turkey Federation, Vermont Fish & Wildlife, and Vermont Folklife as the Green Mountain State heads into its second half century of turkey hunting!
All winter we've been recording interviews to preserve the past and present of Vermont's turkey hunting for listeners now and in the future. At Turkey Tales,
you'll hear:
How Vermont's turkeys were brought back from the brink, from the biologists who headed up the reintroduction over fifty years ago,
The story of the very first turkey bagged after the reintroduction – a 21 pound tom who came in to a box call in Pawlet on May 9, 1973 – from dairy farmer and lucky hunter John Hathaway,
Stories from mentors and new hunters today like hunter education instructor Wendy Butler and newly-minted turkey hunter Shane Silverman, and most important, you'll have a chance to tell your own stories from the turkey woods and have them recorded to become part of the Folklife Center's audio collection on turkey hunting in Vermont.
