WHAT: Composting, Repairing, and Reducing Plastic Consumption
COMPOSTING: Composting food and garden waste in your backyard can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, repair the natural nutrient cycle, increase the biodiversity of life in the soil, and save you money. Cat Buxton, master composter, will help to demystify the recipe and science to improve your hot or cold composting systems, or your worm bin. Bring your questions, and if you like, bring photos of your system.
REPAIR: While you're at it, bring along that broken toaster or misbehaving laptop - VTSU electrical engineering faculty, staff, and students will be fixing too. Also: get your bike tuned up, your knives sharpened, and your clothes and socks mended.
PLASTICS: Learn things you never knew about plastics -- why their production and disposal are huge problems for the climate and the Earth. Learn 5 actions anyone can take to reduce their plastic consumption. Look at some informative (and alarming) articles, see actual alternatives to plastic items and packaging, and take some handouts (about single use plastics, useful websites on climate change, etc.). Hosted by Strafford Climate Action.
