The Veterans' Place 2nd Annual Bottle Drive

Past event
May 4, 2024, 10 AM to 3 PM

Well, winter is running away from us, sugaring is in full swing. And the yard chores are going to start. But Green up day is just around the corner and the Veterans place is doing our 2nd annual bottle drive on May 4 this year. Did you save your returnables all year and wondering what to do. Most don't think much of cans but when residents of multiple towns stop in, even with a bag of ten cans. It all adds up. The location is the same as last year. Kenyon's hardware in Northfield VT. This year we are trying to iron out last years restrictions. We used a little landscape trailer that wasn't that beneficial when transporting. But I would like to ask the community for help with transporting bags. Or possible leads. If anyone has a dump trailer or high sides that would like to help, please reach out. We are fully insured, and I also carry a clean class A. I encourage all who reads this event to share all information on this event. FPF wont let me share in other towns or attach the actual flyers. Please check us out.

Thanks, from our veterans and staff.

I would like to take this moment to personally thank everyone who donated their old bottles and cans on our first annual bottle drive. All donations went straight to the care of our nation's heroes.

The Board of Directors, our Residents, and our Staff wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all who have given from their hearts. We realize there are many individuals, families, and businesses that are hurting financially right now, so to continue to have such generous friends as yourselves has meant more than you could know.

They come to us as broken men, from living in shelters, on park benches, or under bridges. They carry scars, some visible, many invisible. They are struggling—with nightmares, PTSD, fear, rejection, distrust, loneliness and, quite often, addiction. They weren't always like this. Once they stood straight and tall, proudly wearing the uniform of our country. But war takes a heavy toll that can't just be forgotten.

These men have seen things no one should have to see. They have done things they dare not speak of. They feel desperate and alone in their suffering. They arrive at The Veterans' Place seeking food, shelter, and a warm bed, but they find so much more. A family, to take them in. Comrades in arms, who understand what they have been through. Mentors, to help guide them, restore their dignity, and begin the healing process. Most important, they discover a second chance at life—an opportunity to be part of a community, forge new relationships, change old habits, and regain their status as a contributing member of society. At the Veterans' Place, every soldier's story is unique. Their journey has led them here, to this safe place, where they can recover, rehabilitate, and learn to trust again.

Indeed, even when we are at full capacity, the GPD covers only about 65% of our operating costs because of all the wrap around services we provide for our Veterans, at no cost to them. The rest of our income comes from community organizations, fundraisers, and donors like you. That is why your support is critical during these times. Your gift to the Veterans' Place will put us one step closer to fulfilling our mission of making sure that no Veteran is left behind.

As a combat vet myself, I have learned so much working here. I highly encourage people to take the time to research us, our facility, and the gents who call us home. Current, past, and drop-ins.

Thank you from the staff to the residents.
