Tuesday, March 12th - 6:30 p.m. Cutler Memorial Library, Plainfield VT An Enclave of Women's Power in the Bronze Age (Ancient Irish Culture series)

In Ireland there was women's hermitage on top of Cnoc Gréine (Grian's Hill) in Pallas Green, County Limerick. This hilltop continues to be a living place, removed from even most of foot traffic, and where once only women were allowed to tread. Their sacred precinct was protected not by standing stones but by "egg stones" which say... "This place is different, and is ruled by the Feminine."

We will discuss how this women's community became the focus of Béltaine, as the Sun (Grian) came to "her place" and the Warm Half of the year began on May 1st. Hopefully I can cover it all in this one session, but if we run short of time we'll resume in April... as we prepare for Béltaine here in Vermont.

Michael Ceruilli Billingsley has led 11 field research expeditions to Ireland's SW, where he was responsible for discovery of a number of ritual sites from the Middle Bronze Age.
