In observance of Easter, ReFind Boutique will be hosting our second annual Pysanky Workshop Series with pysankarka (писанкарка) Melora Hunt from Barnet. What is Pysanky you ask? A pysanka (plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated using beeswax and dyes. The word comes from the verb pysaty, "to write", as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax using a Kistka (wax stylus), utilizing traditional folk art motifs and designs. This art form dates back to ancient times and carries with it a rich spiritual and cultural importance for young and old alike.
Classes will be held at ReFind Boutique, 3176 East Main Street, Richmond on Sunday, March 17th, 5:30 to 10 pm., and again on March 24th (same time) and will be limited to 10 students per class. The cost is $110.00. This includes an electronic Kistka that the student will take home for future use. For those with a kistka already, the cost is $60.00. All materials will be provided and refreshments will be served. 100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to The Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Pre-registration is required. Those interested should email JoAnn Yurchesyn (refindvt@gmail.com). Please let me know your full name, the class you are interested in attending, whether you have a kistka or will require one, and a good contact number so that I can notify you of any changes to the time/date of this event.
