The Savoy is putting on a screening of Israelism, a new documentary about the journey of two young American Jews who start to question the narratives about Israel they learned growing up in their American Jewish communities, including during trips they take to Israel and at the universities they attend. As they do, they also begin to explore their relationships to Judaism anew.
We hope to have a mix of people in the audience interested in understanding more about the U.S. Israel alliance which is holding fast even as calls for a ceasefire in Gaza are rebuffed by our President, despite massive public debate and questioning by our own representatives in Washington and in our Statehouse, and in our streets.
One of the film's directors will be present via Zoom and will take questions after the screening.
This event is sponsored by Jewish Voice for Peace, VT-NH* https://www.jvp-vtnh.org/ and The Vermont Coalition for Palestinian Liberation and takes place on Sunday, March 10, 3pm, Savoy Theatre in Montpelier. Tickets are on sale now or at the door — https://savoytheater.com/movies/israelism/
*Jewish Voice for Peace is the largest Jewish, progressive, anti-Zionist organization in the world. Anti-Zionism means to be against a state that privileges the rights of Jews over those of non-Jews, Muslims and Christians. It does not mean antisemitic.
