A History of Coinage from Barter to the Present

Past event

The Underhill Historical Society will present Rick Hey, a Numismatist (coin collector), who will describe and show examples of the earliest coinage known, Roman coins, American colonial coins and Vermont coins. He will start with a description of the barter system and the introduction of money (coins) which resulted in a profound mental and cultural change for the exchanging of goods and services. Coins were a lot easier to carry around than, for instance, a cart full of hogs.

Rick worked at IBM and Globalfoundaries for 35 years where he managed various photo-lithography operations. He has lived in Underhill since 1985 and has served the community as a member of the Selectboard, the Zoning Board, the Historical Society and various committees. Over the past 20 years he has appraised, bought and sold coins, and helped collectors to find coins. He is a longtime member of the American Numismatic Association.

The talk will take place at the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library in Jericho on Friday March 15th at 7pm.
