ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SECOND MEETING OF THE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE CAUCUS
The untenability and unaffordability of our current healthcare system is undeniable. An estimated 44% of Vermonters under the age of 65 are underinsured and cannot afford to use the insurance benefits for which they pay exorbitant premiums. It has been difficult to both increase access and control cost in a system designed for the few to profit off of the suffering of the many. Regardless of income, assets, health status, or any other social determinant, all people deserve affordable, high-quality, comprehensive health care as a public good. The legislative Universal Health Care Caucus is a coalition of community members dedicated to finding a legislative path towards achieving the goal of Act 48- an equitable, publicly financed health care system for all Vermonters.
At our second meeting, we shall review the current work of the House Health Care Committee to expand access to Medicaid, so that we can understand barriers and identify opportunities to take steps forward. We shall consider various proposals presented over the years, including a plan from the Vermont Workers' Center and the Universal Primary Care bills that have been introduced since 2017.
Please join the Universal Health Care Caucus for our second meeting on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024. Attendance is possible both in person at the State House Cafeteria in Montpelier and through Zoom.
From 5:00 to 5:30 PM, we gather for refreshments and socialization in person, and the hybrid meeting runs from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
