Young people are encouraged to have their voices heard through voting in order to have a say on issues they care about. I hope that parents will talk with their 17 and 18 year olds about this topic. Studies show that when they are encouraged to register, students will also vote.
We are lucky that voter registration is so easy online in Vermont through the Secretary of State's office. Several students and a teacher are going to help students register this Wednesday, Feb. 28th throughout the day in the lobby of MAUHS. Parents, please remind your Mt. Abe Juniors and Seniors to bring their phones, ID (driver's license or last 4 of their social security number), know the town and state where they were born, and their correct street address (not a PO Box).
It takes approximately 3 minutes to register and they can find information and check their status on MyVoterPage-Vermont (mvp.vermont.gov). Once registered, 17 year olds may vote in the Primary on March 5th if they will be 18 by November 5, 2024.
