The Braintree Conservation Commission invites all who are willing and able to volunteer in conducting trail maintenance and clearing in the Braintree Mountain Forest on October 4th from 10:00am until 1:00pm. The rain date for this event will be Sunday, October 5th.
Come and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage and show your appreciation for a local natural resource. We will meet at the home of Paul Kendall and Sharon Rives at 10:00am sharp, and depart for trail project areas on the way to the 3030 summit and Thunder Mountain. Snacks will be provided, but please pack a water bottle and a lunch, if needed, to bring along on the trail. Volunteers are asked to bring small hand tools appropriate for clipping and lopping vegetation, if you have them. Please do not bring power tools.
The Kendall/Rives home is located at 487 Kendall Rd in Braintree. Follow Rt 12A north from Randolph, and turn left onto Riford Brook Road. Take a right onto Morse Road, and then follow signs to turn left onto Kendall Road.
The Braintree Mountain Forest was acquired by the New England Forestry Foundation after a generous gift by Kendall and Rives. The 1547 acres of conservation land represents the largest gift in the organization’s history, and protects the headwaters of the Riford Brook watershed from development and maintains public recreational uses. The forest is managed to maintain its health, habitats, and diverse woodland types. Braintree Mountain Forest is open to everyone for passive recreational purposes.
