BANNED BOOK EVENT'
PROMOTES FREEDOM TO READ
The public is invited to attend a panel discussion of the topic of intellectual freedom, its history, recent challenges, and ways in which the public can help preserve this fundamental right.
The meeting is sponsored by the Bennington Branch of the American Association of University Women, and will take place on Sunday, February 25th, at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bennington Meetinghouse, 108 School Street, Bennington.
In recent years, book challenges have increased. This increase has prompted libraries, school districts and universities to look at their selection criteria and reconsideration processes more closely. This evolving problem will be examined by a panel of four area librarians:
Karsen Kiesinger, BA, MA, MLIS, Reference and Adult Services Librarian at the Bennington Free Library
Jennie Rozycki, BA, MLIS, Director of the John G. McCullough Free Library in North Bennington
Wendy Sharkey, holds a Master of Science from Cranfield University and is a recent graduate of the University of North Texas where she received her Masters in Library Science.
Oceana Wilson, Dean of the Library at Bennington College, is currently serving as the President of the Vermont Library Association.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the presentation.
The meeting is free and light refreshments will be available.
