The Friends of the UVM Horticulture Farm are pleased to offer a presentation on "Growing and Enjoying Lilacs" by Dr. Mark DeBard of the International Lilac Society. Dr. DeBard will cover the key facts of growing lilacs, from types of lilacs, flower forms and colors, growing conditions and maintenance to making more lilacs. He will also talk about pruning, well-known lilacs, and the history of the International Lilac Society. You will leave wanting to plant a lilac garden with every color and fragrance of lilac you can find.

Presenter's bio: After retiring as an emergency physician in 2016, Dr. Mark DeBard made his long-time hobby of lilac horticulture one of his retirement passions. An active Board member of the International Lilac Society (ILS) since 2018 and Membership Secretary in 2021, he has been the Registrar for the International Registry & Checklist of Cultivar Names for the Genus Syringa for five years, and editor of the 2021 book of the lilac cultivar Registry. Mark also was the Editor of the ILS 2020 Lilac Photo & Color database, a collection of 11,000 photos of over 1450 lilac cultivars. He plans to expand this in 2025.
