The Vermont Philharmonic, Vermont's oldest community orchestra, will present "Love's Riddles" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, at the Barre Opera House. (The concert will also take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, the 17th, at the Elley-Long Music Center at St Michael's College in Colchester.)
Conductor and music director Lou Kosma will lead the ensemble in the Overture and March from Carl Maria von Weber's music for the play Turandot, and Paul Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes of Carl Maria von Weber. Also on the program will be the "Meditation" from Tchaikovsky's Souvenir of a Beloved Place, performed by violinist Maaike Dam, winner of the 2024 Jon Borowicz Memorial Scholarship Competition; A Fanfare for Peace: The Lily and the Thorn by Northfield composer Dennis Bathory-Kitsz; and the five Rückert-Lieder by Gustav Mahler, sung by Vermont soprano Lisa Jablow.
