Past event
Feb 18, 2024, 2 to 2:30 PM

The Vermont Philharmonic will explore "Love's Riddles" on Sunday, February 18th at 2:00 PM at the Barre Opera House, with conductor and music director Lou Kosma. The program includes the Overture and March from Carl Maria von Weber's music for the play Turandot (not to be confused with Puccini's opera of that name), and Paul Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes of Carl Maria von Weber.

Also on the program will be the "Meditation" from Tchaikovsky's Souvenir d'un lieu cher, performed by the winner of the 2024 Jon Borowicz Memorial Scholarship Competition, Maaike Dam; a 1990 work by Vermont composer Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, A Fanfare for Peace: The Lily and the Thorn; and the five hauntingly beautiful Rückert-Lieder by Gustav Mahler, sung by Vermont soprano Lisa Jablow.

Tickets ($25/adults, $20/seniors, and $5/students) are available at the door, or online at vermontphilharmonic.com

Note: The concert will also be held Saturday, February 17th at 7:30 PM at the Elley-Long Music Center at St Michael's College, Burlington
