Murder Mysteries at the Movies

Past event
Feb 14, 2024, 1 to 2 PM

Rick Winston, a well-known Montpelier film buff, will be the second presenter for the Lamoille Valley Osher Lifelong Learning Spring Series. His lecture entitled "Whodunits and Whydunits" will appropriately be at the Stowe Cinema Triplex, 454 Mountain Road in Stowe on Wednesday, February 14, from 1-2pm. Doors open at 12:30. The popcorn is popping, so bring your Valentine to see some film clips that use the murder mystery genre to make larger points about social issues, weather it's race ("In the Heat of the Night"), immigration ("Lone Star"), official corruption("The Secret in their Eyes"), or class divides ("Mystic River" and" Gosford Park"). Winston was co-owner of the Savoy theatre from 1981-2009 and has written a book about his experiences titled "Save Me a Seat! A Life with Movies".

To register for this presentation or for the full series with your credit card, go to learn.uvm.edu/olli/lamoille or call 802-656-8407 during regular business hours. We can also assist you at the door.
