History of the Vikings: Ages 15-18, Wednesdays

Past event
Mar 27, 2024, 10 AM to 12 PM

Running a series of six workshops (Wednesdays, 10:00-12:00, ONLINE) on the Viking Age (793-1066 AD) for homeschoolers, ages 15-18. Workshops to run February 14-March 27 with a break on February 28. $200/student.

Classes will alternate between interactive lectures and hands-on simulations geared towards bringing cultural, historical, and government topics relating to the Viking Age to life. Past simulations from similar courses have included a class debate on the character and deeds of Richard III, a mock-Althing (annual "parliamentary" meeting of Vikings in Iceland established c. 930), and a "re-writing" of the Magna Carta (in which students took on the roles/interests of historical English barons, church, and monarchy). Discussions and simulations will be supplemented with a sample of primary readings from works such as Beowulf and Sagas of the Icelanders, as well as an introduction to secondary sources on contemporary archaeological discoveries relating to Viking history.

More information on the workshop, the instructor, and enrollment can be found at classesofimagination.weebly.com. Registration ends this Sunday evening (2/11).
