Relocalizing VT: Gerrymandering in Vermont?

Past event
Feb 8, 2024, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio: How do Vermont legislators pick their voters? Plus The Vagina Monologues and other upcoming productions at Lost Nation Theater.

9:00 - 10:00 am
In heavily gerrymandered states, the accusation is that incumbent politicians get to pick their voters, rather than voters getting to pick their representatives. Charges of gerrymandering aren't a significant part of the political discussion here, but the legislature and the governor control the process of redistricting state house and senate seats every ten years, after the national census. And they're allowed to take incumbent protection into account. Tom Little served as chair of the Vermont Legislative Apportionment Board in 2021 through 2022, and he is speaking on the controversies around Vermont redistricting on February 14 at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier. He'll join us to talk about why have one-representative (or senator) district versus two-representatives or more, and other issues around fair redistricting.

The Lost Nation Theater in Montpelier is once again putting on The Vagina Monologues, Feb. 16-24, with multiple actors exploring sexual issues from a woman's perspective. Co-artistic directors Kathleen Keenan and Kim Bent will talk about why they keep returning to this play, plus other upcoming productions at the regional theater company in Montpelier's City Hall.
