On Thursday evening at 6:30 in the Town Hall Conference Room, the Selectboard and our consultant Matt Young from Ascent Consulting in Stockbridge, VT, will be hosting a public information meeting on the proposed Town Maintenance Facility. A presentation of details re: issues with existing condition, proposed design & construction, cost, bonding process, tax implications and schedule will be covered--with Q & A to follow.

As discussed previously, on the ballot during Town Meeting on March 5th, will be the question of resident support for a 4.15M bond for construction of a Town Maintenance Facility. Since the new year began, I've shared a weekly breakdown of the Selectboard's Top 10 list of reasons building this facility is in our shared interest--functionally and financially. If the bond vote passes, design & permitting effort will begin immediately after--and construction slated for April 2025.
The fifth rationale for a "yes" vote, addresses the long term cost savings tax payers will realize by undertaking this project:
1. Building the garage now v. waiting until the bond on Town Hall sunsets in 2029, will quite simply mean hundreds of thousands of dollars of long term savings. While the sectors may not rise as rapidly as they have in the past two years, it is expected that labor, material and borrowing costs will only continue on an upward trajectory.
2. The commitment of 500K of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds will cut the total 4.65M project cost by roughly 12%---resulting in additional compounded savings over the arc of the 4.15M bond repayment over 30 years.
