Dear Neighbors,
Join us Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm at the Best Western Hotel Conference Center / Windjammer for a big workshop all about placemapping & connectivity in this part of the city.
The City of South Burlington, together with Dreher Designs & the Project for Public Spaces, invites you to participate in this workshop as a part of the overall Community Visioning Week. See details in the current issue Other Paper and at www.sburl.com for the full week's worth of events.
Objectives for Tuesday's workshop at the Best Western:
- Have participants assess their neighborhood collectivity in a way that rarely, if ever is done as a group
- At the neighborhood scale level, identify the assets that contribute to the sense of place and barriers that inhibit it
- Help participants proactively present to the City of South Burlington and its consultants with input on how to update its current zoning and codes to make their place function at its fullest level.
- Create grassroots input instead of the conventional approach of having experts presents ideas for the community to react to.
- The desired outcome of this stage is a diagnosis of values, activities and reaction to physical form (e.g. the expansive parking lots along Route 7 make it uncomfortable to work to shopping and dining) rather than actual solutions, although solutions can be discussed as starter ideas to help visualize the issues.
