Rally and March

The Vermont Association of the Deaf along with the Save Austine School Committee will have a March and Rally that will start at Montpelier City Hall at 12:30pm on Saturday, 9/27 and convene at the State House at 1:15pm.

This march and rally is in response to the closing of the Vermont Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, an umbrella organization that housed the Austine School for the Deaf along with numerous other services that provided cradle to grave support for Deaf individuals and families with Deaf children.

This march and rally also coincides with the celebration of International Deaf Awareness Day. Come celebrate the rights of Deaf people to equal communication, education and opportunities.

The closing of VCDHH has left a gap in services for Deaf Vermonters and means the end to an educational option where Deaf children receive direct instruction in their native language, American Sign Language.

Speakers include representatives from the National Association of the Deaf, the Vermont Association of the Deaf, the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, the Vermont Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, the Council on Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf, the Austine Alumni Association, and parents of Deaf school aged children.
