Three Lectures on The History of the Haywards' House and Garden
in support of and presented at the Congregational Church in Westminster West, Vermont
February 18, 25 and March 5 at 6:30PM
FEBRUARY 18 AT 6:30 – THE OLD BUXTON PLACE IN WESTMINSTER WEST, ITS RESTORATION, AND BEGINNINGS OF A NEW GARDEN -
Gordon and Mary Hayward will explore the history of what is, since 1983, their house, originally built by the Ranney family ca. 1790 within the context of the early history of Westminster West Village. First, Westminster Historian Jessie Haas will start the evening talking about the life and the buildings in the village of Westminster West around 1790.
Then, for 40 minutes or so, Gordon and Mary will use a powerpoint presentation to illustrate their talk about the history of their house; pre-1983 photos of the house; its condition in 1983 and on as they restored the house and its one remaining attached barn.
February 25: The Haywards' personal histories and inspirations they brought to the property in 1983 (more info to follow).
March 3: The Haywards' four-season garden (more details to follow) .
