Fall is officially here, and that means it's time to celebrate Oktoberfest! The Craftsbury Outdoor Center will be hosting an Oktoberfest event full of running, mountain biking, rowing, and biathlon races the first weekend of October. Along with the races there will be an Oktoberfest themed local dinner and celebration.
On Saturday, the 4th of October starting at 9 am there will be the Singletrack Shootout, a mountain biking/running biathlon race featuring the Center’s singletrack trails. Competitors will race 5 times around a singletrack loop with four shooting stages. Novices and experts alike are welcome; novices will have ammo and rifles provided and a shooting clinic will precede the novice race.
On Saturday afternoon at 1 pm the Center will host the Henley on Hosmer Regatta, a rowing race on Big Hosmer Pond in Craftsbury. Rowing competitors will race two abreast, with the winner advancing to the next round. Each consecutive round will be shorter than the previous round, ending with a final sprint to award the overall victor. Separate prize categories are up for grabs for oarsmen and oarswomen in the open and master’s categories.
Following the rowing races, Saturday night will bring the Bavarian-themed Oktoberfest dinner at 6 pm. The Craftsbury Dining Hall, known for cooking up delicious local fare, will pull out all the stops with schnitzel, sausages, sauerkraut, and more.
Stick around for Sunday and you’ll be rewarded with the Craftsbury Checkpoint Challenge, a team adventure race with checkpoints scattered around the Center’s trails. Part orienteering race, part endurance race, this race will test both the brainpower and brawn of each team, as well as their ability to work together. The challenges are not disclosed ahead of time, so competitors should be prepared for anything!
