January 29 is Corn Chip Day. Benjamin Franklin was a fan of corn in many forms. In 1766 the British newspaper "Gazetteer and New Daily Advertiser" published an article claiming that corn was tasteless food. Franklin sent off a rebuttal, stating, "A johny, or hoe-cake, hot from the fire, is better than a Yorkshire muffin."
This bread,, very popular in the Colonies, was made of cornmeal so think of Ben Franklin as you sit down to Munch at the Senior Center and enjoy a piece of a bread that's at least first cousin to his favorite.
