Waterbury Winterfest, Vermont's premier celebration of winter recreation, opens in a week and runs from January 31st through February 4th with indoor and outdoor events for all ages.
The schedule features many familiar, long-time favorites, such as Bluegrass Night at ProPig Brewery and the VT Beer Quiz at Blackback Pub, which open the festivities on Wednesday, to wassailing, beer and wine tastings, the family broomball tournament, snow soccer and volleyball, and VT Candyland. This year also marks the return of the popular Game Show on Friday evening after a three-year hiatus. New additions to the schedule include Monikers Merriment game night at Bridgeside Books on Saturday and a Cardboard Arcade hosted by Makersphere on Sunday.
"Winterfest allows people both from the community and from wherever else to discover the magic of winter in Waterbury," said Roger Clapp, a member of the Winterfest leadership team. "It gives everyone an opportunity to support increasing access to recreation in the Waterbury area and really celebrate the longest season of the year," he added.
The full calendar of events can be seen at waterburywinterfest.com. A handful of events require advance registration for planning purposes or because of space limitations: Wassailing, Intro to TRX (Total Resistance Exercises), Family Broomball Tournament, Bocce Tournament, and Monikers Merriment. Interested participants are encouraged to sign up early to ensure their spot. Game Show teams have already been selected and registered through a lottery. Broomball teams have a registration fee of $10 per adult and $5 per child, and the bocce registration fee is $20 per team. All other events are free and open to everyone, with donations appreciated. Spectators are also welcome and encouraged to attend Winterfest events.
