Pawlet Public Library: Community Forum-Hearing Access

Past event
Jan 30, 2024, 5:30 PM

This past Spring, the Pawlet Public Library received a grant from the American Library Association's Program called Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities. The primary audience highlighted in this grant is seniors with deafness or loss of hearing. A community conversation is an essential part of this project too discuss the idea of a loop hearing system with our deaf or hard of hearing patrons, to ensure that a loop system is the type of accessibility measure they would like to see.

The Library will be hosting a community conversation on Tuesday, January 30 at 5:30 pm.

We invite all library patrons, community members and especially those folks who would attend library programs and events if they could be assured they would be able to hear the proceedings. The hearing loop system will be described (Please see the hearingloss.org description of the technology-it works through telecoil present in most hearing aids). The agenda will also include discussion about modifications to the proposed approach if audience members have ideas or more information about making public spaces accessible to the deaf or hard of hearing. We look forward to seeing you at this meeting.
