The Vermont Historical Society and the Waterbury Public Library announce COVID-19 Oral History Day Waterbury.

The Vermont Historical Society will hold an interview day at the Waterbury Public Library on February 13th, 2024 as part of VHS's ongoing oral history project, Collecting COVID-19: A Vermont Story.

Vermont gained national and global recognition for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2022, VHS launched an oral history project to capture, preserve, and bring to the public the stories of Vermonters during the public health crisis, particularly those who worked on the front lines and shaped its response.

These interviews will be transcribed and incorporated into a publicly accessible database hosted by VHS and will serve as a valuable resource for researchers while documenting the broad and varied experiences of COVID-19. In addition to its database, VHS will draw on these oral histories to produce a published book and dedicated podcast about the pandemic.

As part of this initiative, the Society will be conducting a day of interviews at the Waterbury Public Library. The primary objective of this interview day will be to interview people from across Vermont about their experiences over the past several years. Our core guiding question will be "What was the experience of COVID-19 like for you?"

Individuals willing to share their experiences are encouraged to sign up through calling Waterbury Public Library at 802-244-7036 or emailing rachel@waterburypubliclibrary.com. For any inquiries about the project, please contact Amanda Gustin, Director of Collections and Access, via email at amanda.gustin@vermonthistory.org.

Collecting COVID-19: A Vermont Story was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services [Grant Number MA-251676-OMS-22]. You can learn more about the project here: https://vermonthistory.org/collecting-covid-19/
