Please come join us this Saturday, January 20 at 10 AM for a brisk and invigorating walk along the Walloomsac Riverwalk! The walk will highlight an individual and an organization who are working on behalf of the community. The walk will include a presentation of the seventh Unsung Hero Award, which recognizes individuals who have quietly gone above and beyond on behalf of the community.
Spencer Jarrett will receive this month's Unsung Hero Award. In his four years in Bennington, Spencer has contributed in many ways to making our community stronger. He has put his professional skills including writing, website design, and marketing to good use to help a number of non-profit organizations. He has worked with both Grateful Hearts and the Sunday Supper programs to provide food for those in need, provided hospice services at the Veterans Home, donated his time to create an outreach resource tool for unhoused individuals, and produced marketing materials for both Turning Point and for the wounded Veterans program, Brothers For Life. Spencer was also a founding member of the Walloomsac River Walk group. Please come join us in celebrating this month's unsung hero.
January's walk will begin at 10 AM at the Rotary/Bennington Station Park on Depot Street between Main Street and River Street. Green Mountain Transit Center will be our featured organization. We will be joined by Executive Director, Terence White, for the walk. The walk will end at the Transit Center at 215 Pleasant Street where we will give the Unsung Hero award to Spencer and then learn about the services provided to our community by Green Mountain Express including new initiatives such as electric buses and micro-transit options. Light refreshments will be available at the Center for participants.
Walloomsac Riverwalks take place on the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. People of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy this ongoing community event. Unsung Hero nominations may be submitted at https://tinyurl.com/bennhero.
