HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS W9ASTE COLLECTION AT A NEW LOCATION OCTOBER 4,
2014

The Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection event, cosponsored by the Mad River Resource Management Alliance, the Moretown Landfill, Inc. and the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, will be held behind the Northfield Fire Station at 148 Wall Street in Northfield, Vermont on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.. So if you are an Alliance resident or small business, from Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Northfield, Roxbury, Waitsfield, Warren or Waterbury and have household hazardous wastes like pool chemicals, solvents and degreasers, oven and drain cleaners, old gasoline, paint thinners, you can ring up to 10 gallons of these wastes and all of your pesticides and architectural paints, both oil based and
latex, at no charge for proper disposal. While you’re at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection, you can visit the paint drop and swap where folks can bring good cans of paint that they don’t need and you can pick these up and use them for your painting tasks. You can also bring all your compact fluorescent lights and up to 10 fluorescent light tubes. There is no charge for this program. If you have any mercury related compounds like thermometers, thermostats, switches, fluorescent light bulbs, medical or scientific instruments we can take them at this collection day event. Any mercury thermostats that are brought in will be eligible to receive a coupon valued at $5.00 that can be mailed to the Thermostat Recycling Corporation.
The cover must be on the thermostat to be eligible for the incentive fee. If you have a mercury thermometer, we will swap you for a digital thermometer at this event at no charge. Kinney’s Drug and Variety and Waterbury Pharmacy will also accept mercury thermometers on a daily basis but you cannot swap for a digital thermometer at these stores. We are able to take the oil and latex architectural paints as a result of Vermont’s latest product stewardship legislation. You can bring at least 5 gallons of sealed cans of architectural paint with the original label to the Waterbury True Value Hardware Store or the Bisbee’s Hardware Store in Waitsfield. Additional sites to recycle your architectural paints can be found at www.paintcare.org. If you have any questions contact John Malter at 244-7373.
