Cabot Library Book Discussion - All Those in Favor

Past event
Jan 31, 2024, 7 to 8:30 PM

Pick up a free copy of the book (otherwise out of publication) from the library and join us at 7 pm on Wednesday, January 31, to talk with Susan Clark of Middlesex, who co-authored with Frank Bryan of UVM poly sci fame the book ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, REDISCOVERING THE SECRETS OF TOWN MEETING AND COMMUNITY.

There are pros and cons to Australian Ballot voting at our annual town meeting; we lost the face-to-face contact and give-and-take in-person town meeting provided, but about three times as many residents participate in the difficult decisions involved in governing a town. Might it be possible to preserve the best elements of both types of meeting by coming together, deciding what we think are the most important goals of town meeting and finding a way to accomplish them?

Even if you don't come to the meeting on January 31, the book is an interesting and fun read for anyone who loves Vermont and respects our "purest form of democracy." And even if you don't read the book, consider coming to the discussion group to express your thoughts and wishes for a town meeting that works for you.
