VSA Vermont is pleased to announce that its second annual FREE BOOM VT Community Drum Festival will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College, 223 Ethan Allen Avenue, Colchester, Vermont. BOOM VT supports the talents of people with disabilities and brings people with and without disabilities together in musical celebration. The festival is free to the public.

The day will feature professional and community drumming teams, including Burlington Taiko, Sambatucada, and Jeh Kulu. Spectators will hear rhythms from around the world while supporting the inclusive arts education programs sponsored by VSA Vermont across the state. Everyone will be invited to join in drumming the final clave.

From 10 am until noon, festivities will begin with a drum making and drumming instruction workshop; children and adults will be able to create their own drums for the afternoon program. Part of the drum making workshop will be also devoted to basic drumming instruction.

Lunch and other refreshments will be served.

Why drumming? Humans have been drumming since time began. Drumming is a form of community and communication. No equipment or skill is necessary. At VSA Vermont, art beats for everyone.

For more information, to get involved, or to attend BOOM VT, please contact Marguerite Adelman by phone at (802) 655-4606 or by email at boomvt@vsavt.org .

VSA Vermont uses the magic of the arts to engage the capabilities and enhance the confidence of children and adults with disabilities.
