Poultney Biodiversity & Mushroom Enthusiasts!
Les Hook and Nova Kim, Green Mountain College's and Vermont Tech's adjunct wildcrafting instructors (and gourmet wild foods CSA innovators) will be at Green Mountain College tonight, Monday, September 22nd @ 7pm with a special guest mycologist from Guatemala. Interested Poultney residents are warmly invited to attend tonight's impromptu presentation at 7pm in Terrace 124 (back of Ames Hall) featuring Dr. Roberto Flores, who is an expert in wild edible mushrooms of Guatemala.

Dr. Roberto Flores is currently is Director of Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas y Biológicas Facultad de Ciencias Químicas y Farmacia at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC). He is in Vermont this week as a Visiting Scholar at the Vermont Technical College and collaborating with Green Mountain College's adjunct Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems professors, Les Hook and Nova Kim who are Vermont wildcrafters: http://www.wildgourmetfood.com/Wild_Gourmet_CSA.html.

These three are collaborating to compare and to analyze the most known edible macrofungi of Vermont and make a comparison of macro and micro structures to separate the species with reference to the North Neotropical fungi of Guatemala. Interestingly, Vermont and Guatemala share many of the same mushrooms appearing in the same time of year. Dr. Flores' talk tonight (Monday, September 22, 2014) at 7pm in Terrace 124, will feature his photographs of Guatemala, its ecosystems, biodiversity, mushrooms, cultures and he will discuss opportunities to collaborate with Vermont researchers and wildcrafters interested in wild edible mushrooms of these two parts of the world.

Refreshments are served at the event end.
