Here at GFL we have a small collection of Large Print books and some audiobooks to offer folks who have difficulties reading regular print. There's so much more the state offers through its ABLE collection, and we can help you register for their services here. I'm highlighting a free program at Hardwick's Jeudevine Library which will showcase the services and offer immediate registration. Please help spread the word about this valuable service! Here's more information:

The Vermont Department of Libraries' ABLE (Audio Braille Large-print Electronic) Library is very excited to work with Hardwick's Jeudevine Memorial Library on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 6:30 pm to present an overview of the FREE books and services available to Vermonters of all ages with reading disabilities and blindness, as well as visual and physical disabilities that make it difficult to read regular print.

The ABLE Library is the state of Vermont's National Library Service (NLS) network library. The NLS is a free braille and talking book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical, perceptual, or reading disability that prevents them from using regular print materials. Through a national network of cooperating libraries, NLS circulates books and magazines in braille or audio formats that are instantly downloadable to a personal device or delivered by mail free of charge. Vermonters who qualify for ABLE services also have access to the 111,000 talking books on demand through the National Library Service's Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) program. In addition, the ABLE Library's collection consists of 10,000 large print books, 280 Braille books, and 350 accessible youth items. ABLE serves any Vermonter with a visual, physical, or reading disability that prevents them from reading standard print. ABLE's collections include audiobooks, braille, large print, and electronic audiobooks. ABLE also offers high-contrast picture books and Wonderbooks (print books with ready-to-play audiobooks inside) for folks to enjoy with younger patrons.
