CANAAN, Vermont
People gathered in Canaan this past Sunday to celebrate the 140th anniversary of Canaan's historic Grace Church, with speakers from the Preservation Trust of Vermont, Indian Stream Community Health Center, Canaan Select Board, and several members of the new Grace Community Church. This event also introduced Grace Church’s new pastor and his wife, Frankie and Katie Sawicki, who traveled from Cambridge, Maryland to be part of this historical event prior to moving here permanently at the end of this year.
"Community" was the theme that each speaker spoke of, sharing recollections of the past involvement of the Grace congregation in the community and how the newly independent and non-denominational Grace Community Church sets their mission into the future.
Those gathered, as well as several other families from the community, met on the front lawn after the service replicating a 100-year old photo taken in front of the church on September 21, 1914, which is now recorded for future generations to see.
Grace Church’s next event will be OctoberFeast, a Harvest Beef Pie Supper on Saturday, October 4th from 5-7:00 p.m. For more information and photos from the event you can visit www.facebook.com/GraceCommunityChurchVT or www.TheGraceCommunityChurch.org.
