Preview of Sept 22 City Council Meeting

Past event
Sep 22, 2014, 7 to 10:30 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its second of two meetings for the month of September.

We will begin our evening at 7pm in Contois Auditorium with a brief Local Control Commission meeting. We will begin our Council meeting with annual reports from the Airport and Retirement Commissions. (Years ago before I was on the Council, there was one meeting devoted to hearing every Commission or Boards' annual report; now we spread them over several meetings.)

Our next item will be a Mayoral Proclamation. This will be followed by a public hearing on the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report from CEDO.

We will be voting to refer two ordinance on a first reading to the Ordinance Committee. They both pertain to livestock issues. The first is regarding the slaughter of livestock and poultry and the second is humane treatment of livestock. We have two resolutions before us regarding ballot items for the November election. The first is a referendum vote on giving amnesty for hemp and cannabis-only offenses and the second is a referendum giving non-US citizens the right to vote in Vermont Municipal and School elections. Our last resolution is about Burlington's permit system and form-based code.

At this point in the meeting, we may recess our Council meeting to convene a meeting of the City Council with Mayor Presiding to vote on a commission appointment.

Following this recess, we would then reconvene the Council meeting. We will then have council committee reports, comments from councilors and the Mayor.

Please keep in mind that you are welcome to come to a council meeting and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm.

Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website:

Please keep in mind that at all Council meetings are televised live on Channel 317 on Burlington Telecom.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please email or give me a call over the weekend or on Monday. I hope you have a great weekend.

All my best,
Karen
