River Arts is pleased to host a lantern workshop with artist Gowri Savoor in conjunction with her public art piece This Place, to be installed at Arthur’s Main Street Project through the Lamoille Housing Partnership.
In this special workshop, artist Gowri Savoor will lead participants through the process of lantern design and construction, reflecting the form of the permanent sculpture at Arthur’s, This Place.
This Place is a permanent sculpture, which will be located in the Arthur’s Main Street redevelopment in downtown Morrisville. “The artwork is evocative of a dwelling merging with its environment.” Gowri said, “Using the commonly published interpretation of Lamoille – ‘la moelle’ or ‘the marrow’, This Place is intended to invoke a sense of connection – with the community, with the environment and with the buildings in which we inhabit.”
The workshop will tie the concepts of ‘relationship with the environment, place on the land, dwelling and community’.
•All ages are welcome, with a minimum age of 4yrs. Children under 8 should be accompanied by an adult.
•Registration required – limit 20 participants.
•All tools and materials will be provided. If you have a pair of hand-held pruning shears, please do bring them along, you’ll find it useful to have a pair of your own.
