Happy New Year, Montpelier! With the legislative session kicking off on Wednesday, Rep. Kate McCann, myself and our Barre City colleagues have been working hard on legislation to help communities that were devastated by flooding in 2023. Our 22-page "Flood Recovery Omnibus Bill" (catchy title, huh?) looks to address the following:
-Direct municipal aid for abatements and revenue lost
-A new grant program to help businesses and non-profits get back on their feet, with support for New American business owners
-Support for individuals who are currently unhoused as a result of the flooding
-Substantial investments in a comprehensive flood mitigation plan
-Enhanced emergency preparedness
-And much more!
We'll post a full copy of the bill when its available online. In the meantime, please join us on Wednesday at noon on the State House steps to hear more about this important legislation. We need to be LOUD so that the Governor and our colleagues understand the level of economic injury we've suffered and continue to experience. Our community showed up for each other in July - now it's time for the state to show up for us! Kate and I are eager to hit the ground running this session, working with our incredible team of Washington County senators. When flood waters rise, we rise up as a community - see you on Wednesday!
