Solstice Sing Rescheduled for Wednesday - Stay Safe!

Past event
Dec 20, 2023, 6:45 to 8:30 PM

Not sure if this will get out in time but imagine most will assume this to be the case. The Winter Solstice Sing for Menfolk scheduled for this evening is CANCELLED. Pending confirmation of this tomorrow, we will reschedule the gathering for THIS Wednesday evening.

New timing event details below....

When: Dec 20, 2023, 6:45 to 8:30 PM
Where: Montpelier, VT

As the story goes, it was in the darkest time of the year, as another deep winter was settling in, when the menfolk of Vermont began to join their voices together again in song...

What: Menfolk* gathering round fire and singing. We're also welcoming the Winter Solstice and celebrating a year of gathering in song this way.
When: WEDNESDAY, December 20th, 6:45 - 8:30pm (Mulled cider 'n snacks, then singing)
Who's invited: Any *menfolk who want to sing with other menfolk.
What to bring: Yourself. Camp chairs can be helpful, a few pieces of wood if you have them to share. Snacks if you wish. A poem fit for the season always welcome.

RSVP to get specific location details.

Since last year's winter solstice, a number of area menfolk have been gathering together every few weeks to sing around the fire. No other agenda. Just connection and song. We'd love for you to join us.

The format is simple. Arrive a little early if you can and want to connect by fire with folks. There will be mulled cider. We'll circle up and sing around 7. I'll lead a bunch of songs but welcome other contributions. Often there's a little poetry and/or other sharing interspersed with the music.

It's been meaningful to get so many folks out to for this over the last year. Simplest of things, but still feels special - even important. We always have some new folk, often from Front Porch Forum, so don't hesitate if it's your first time. We'd love to have you.

Hit me with questions if you have them.

PS - Several have brought younger generation folks along. All ages welcome.

*But why "menfolk"?? I believe singing, and singing together particularly, to be a human birthright we've largely lost. But if the general population has largely lost it, male-identified folks have even more often been told not to sing. We need each other to help turn that dynamic around.

Yet, while tricky to both invite menfolk together and also sincerely communicate inclusion, this is my goal. Anyone drawn by this invite is welcome, absolutely including non-binary/gender queer/trans-masculine folx, seeking this kind of space and connection. My sense is that if you feel called to come, that's the metric. And please reach out to share your experience if you have questions or don't feel included. I'm ready to learn.
