The Planning Commission developed the Town Plan over the past 18 months. The PC conducted several online surveys ("question of the month") and held many public meetings, including a large community forum at MMU High School in May, to learn from residents about their desires, priorities, and concerns for Jericho's future.
Goals of the Town Plan:
1. Protect natural resources, especially in outlying rural areas, and adapt to climate change
2. Encourage development of new homes, especially in and near the villages and existing neighborhoods
3. Support local economic growth, especially in and near the villages
4. Invest in common infrastructure for the common good, including improved bicycle and pedestrian networks, and water/wastewater/stormwater services
5. Expand the capacity of town government and volunteers to accomplish town goals
After the hearing, the Selectboard will consider Plan adoption, as Jericho's current Town Plan expires in January 2024.
The PC thanks all the residents, the volunteers from the other town committees, our consultants, and the town staff - for everyone's input, respectful debate, writing and editing, website management, and community outreach. We are proud of the final draft, to serve as a guide for Jericho's Journey Forward.
