Join us on Saturday, December 16 from 6:30-9pm screening of the video recording of a new original play, Aisle 6 (in development), written by Martin VanBuren III and produced by Lexington High School. The screening will be followed by a talkback.
This event is free, but if you would like to make a donation, the proceeds will help further support both the Playwright, as well as Stone Valley Arts.
From the director: "I read Aisle 6 for the first time by random chance on a website where users can provide feedback for new plays. Immediately, I realized that this show didn't need feedback, it needed to be produced. It's a story about growing up, dealing with feeling left out, and asks the question, "How far would you go to protect your happiness, even if it hurts someone else."
From the Lexington Leader paper:
"Lexington High School's fall theatre production, AISLE 6, promises to be a hilarious and thought-provoking play that explores the transition from high school to college.
Written by Vermont playwright Martin VanBuren III, the play follows siblings Jake and Alice as they navigate college life and the challenges that come with it. When Alice and her boyfriend Oli begin spending too much time together, Jake hatches a scheme to break them up, leading to a series of hilarious and unexpected events.
The play features a talented cast, including Connor Huddleston as Jake, Jacquelynn Deshazo as Alice, Braden Rodgers as Oli, Harrison Otto as Professor Blast, Louise Woodward as Molly, and Sadhbh Bukvic as Mom. The actors have been given permission to put their own spin on things, which has allowed them to add their own unique touches to the play.
While AISLE 6 is undoubtedly funny, what sets it apart is the honest moments where the characters reflect on their choices. The play explores themes of jealousy, friendship, and the challenges of transitioning from high school to college. The play's exploration of these themes is particularly relevant for the students involved in the production, making it a thought-provoking and meaningful experience for all.
This is the second new work that Lexington High School has produced, and the interaction and interest from the playwright, Martin VanBuren III, has been incredibly validating for the students. The opportunity to work with an up-and-coming playwright is a unique experience that has allowed the students to learn and grow as actors and performers. Martin has been directly involved with the production, including creating a revised version of the show for high school performances.
Normally, playwrights and publishers are reluctant to allow schools to make changes to their scripts, but this time, the playwright is changing things just for schools.
AISLE 6 promises to be a hilarious and thought-provoking play that is not to be missed. With a talented cast, a witty script, and a unique perspective on the challenges of transitioning to college, this production is sure to be a hit with audiences of all ages."
